InWorldz or Second Life

Lots of buzz going around and some artists leaving SL for a less expensive alternative. But, I visited InWorldz and there wasn't much there. So..yeah...its cheaper. Search didn't work so, frankly, I wouldn't have any idea what is there to explore. I love my SL home, my friends, and my experiences have been rich and rewarding - Don't want to give that up. My avie is me......my noob skin in InWorldz feels like an imposter. --- I don't think I'll be joining the exodus but as soror nishi points out....if you want a sim-wide creation - it may be the place of your dreams! http://sorornishi.blogspot.com/2010/07/second-life-vs-inworldz.html

Hi Sledge, yes, pretty much my feelings also. I have avatars on InWorldz, OSGrid, and Meta 7 now. I actually imported my shape & skin to all 3 (and a VB/CO t-shirt too! :) So I do "look like me".

The biggest disappointment is that even though these places are deserted, they have just as much lag as SL. So apparently the lag is deep within the SL Grid architecture... and, of course, my, apparently-not-turbo-enough GeForce card.

I do like the SL neighborhoods also!

Blue Mars really doesn't work for me so far (literally "doesn't work!) But by being an entirely different world, it at least has the possibility of future power. While I LOVE that LL Open Sourced the SL Grid... the other worlds derived from it just seem very impoverished... at least for now, and very likely for all time, unless inter-world bridges can be built. Also, running on an architecture that's from LL who can choose to not Open Source in the future is a little dubious.

Then again... ha ha ha... I am weary of the "rot of capitalism" evident in the vendor greed and user consumerism I find in SL. This "game" / "hobby" / "entertainment"... feels like it should escape the pressures of FL, not compound them. I realize some peeps do make a little or even a lot of money in SL, but for me I'm looking for an expressive platform, not a revenue generating one.

So... everything you say is very true... yet I'm finding a lot of ideological affection for OS Grid atm. VB/CO took a field trip there recently:

and I think VB/CO will do a performance in OS Grid sometime this year.

InWorldz does seem to run a bit better than OS Grid, but then you have exactly SL but with no one home. Even if OS Grid is a little less than the less of InWorldz, at least there's the underlying ideology that is so important for me.

Glad you got to visit anyway.

Oh, btw, I'm "Vaneeesa Blaylock" in InWorldz, OSGrid, and Meta 7 if you ever feel like hooking up and wandering around any of them.

Hey! Got some comments and I didn't even know it! Thanks!

Sori - I posted your website blog, - it was the subject of my blog in the first place. I even quoted you! :)

Vaneesa, thanks for the info regarding the other places. You are definitely into more exploring than I am.

I'm too invested in SL and have little time to start over somewhere else at this time. I don't own land in SL or have any desire or probably even the ability to build a sim-wide creation. I have a platform to work on a sim for now - a gift of the owner in exchange for hosting artists each month. As long as I am having fun - there is no reason to leave.
