Dreamtaker and The Dream

I received a notice regarding a Sculpture competition for "The Dream" so started to experiment with my conception of that idea. During its construction an opportunity to donate something for a Dream Fair occurred so I thought I would submit the developed portion of the piece I started for the competition. I've taken a literal interpretation of the theme and represented it abstractly with very subtle muted colors which are dreamlike. The piece I will enter into the competion is called "Trial by Night" and more colorful. The piece represented in the pictures here is called "Dreamtaker"and has a life of its own. The scripts used are moving water, color changing, and breathing.

Over the weekend I built a new gallery of my own design and am planning a party with a DJ on Sunday. The lag is bad though and I will have to move way up in the sky to get away from all the scripting in the next door game parlor. Tonight I will be trying to save everything, link it and move it. I also made some masks and a new series or two. The second one I made wasn't as successful as the first one but there were some shots I liked, just don't know if anyone else will like it. I showed it to someone I respect and they thought it was too busy---possibly because I was using black and white in it with one color, which is a challenge.

A New Chapter

Here I am in my gallery with one of the two sculptures I created last month. Its called Assuage and is the one I used to create the image shown in a previous post. I made another one on Saturday for a series I call Mystic. Then it came to me...something that has been bothering me since last week. Some girl called Comet asked me why I don't make my sculptures move and do things like everyone else. Then I read in a forum where one person said they admire SL artists who are geeks..."complete artists", she said. Well, it doesn't take a geek to add scripts and it doesn't take scripts to make sculptures in Second Life that are moving (like move your soul, for instance) ..but...it made me think of further possibilities. I don't live in a vacuum...and like a good challenge every so often. Let me first say that I've used scripts in my sculptures before but the best photographs are taken when the prims are motionless. Why make it more difficult to capture the image? So for sculptures I use for taking photographs, it isn't necessary to add scripts and since I am a purist, and the process is such an important part of the artwork, they will only have a rotating script for presentation purposes. I'm making sculptures now...not for creating images but to complete my experience as a Second Life artist. I'm adding scripts when it doesn't take away from the overall experience...where is adds something provocative. My first scripted sculpture is full size and limited in availability. One will be on permanent display on the ceiling of anandra Contemporary Arts Forum and the other will be available at an auction coming up after Valentine's Day. When that event occurs I will post a picture on this site.

Primagery: The Color of Gold

OPENING SOON

February 9th at 7 pm there will be an Opening Reception for this show at Lar's Gallery. My work is on the first floor and Texann Schumann's RL nature photography is on the second floor.

I chose "gold" as the theme because of this photograph and the heart for February. Its turning out to be quite a task to find work that has gold in it that isn't already displaying as a Limited Edition at anandra. A couple of architectural type sculptures are on display which I've never shown before as well as a mixture of other works. I'm also giving away the valentine and showing some others that people can buy for L$50.

Cards in Second Life

Getting ready for a show called Primagery: The Color of Gold in February and thought I would give away a Valentine's Card.
Many of the images that I acquire through this process are suitable for cards so am introducing them next month. I use a free program for adapting the text to the images after cropping and some contrast adjustment. I hope people like them. I will be looking for a script that opens the card and maybe some other enhancements.
They will be available at the Gallery of the Minotaur soon!

January Show Opening at Gallery of the Minotaur

Breakdancing on Ice! 7 pm - 9 pm Friday, January 16, 2008

My work is scattered all over and with the holidays it was hard to focus on creating new work. The show at anandra just opened with some of my best stuff, including the sculpts I use to create them. However, I did find an opportunity to put together something entirely new and am featuring the series in my show this month, a series called "Assuage". I'm asking L$500 for each piece. I'm trying to incorporate line in my work, which is fairly difficult when you just use prims like I do but the random result is a pleasing abstract. The textures employed in these works are my own and the basis of the sculpt was an old work that I had abandoned months ago and revisited. The sculpt on display will be exhibited with two selected views in late Spring or early Summer as limited editions. One of the perils of working with SL tools is just like any computer generated file, if you don't save it..you will lose it. In the middle of playing with this sculpt, I inadvertently edited the color of the linked object and lost what I had created. I tried to reconstruct from an earlier version, and in the process discovered some new views that were interesting to photograph. The accidents are challenging and sometimes rewarding. *I just learned that there is an edit/undo--Oh Well...... This show will run to the middle of February. I have two shows in other galleries already lined up for February too so it should be an interesting month. I'm compiling the work now and always include new work in every show that I don't show elsewhere. The month of February is a Hallmark month of hearts and flowers. I hope to present something slightly different but suitable for the occasion. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Teegarden/92/94/27/?img=http%3A//i344.photobucket.com/albums/p321/zackly143/New%2520Life/minotaurinlabyrinth-2-2-1-2-4-1.jpg&title=The%20Gallery%20of%20the%20Minotaur&msg=%7EAuthentic%20Second%20Life%202D%20Art%7E

Second Life Sculpture and Primagery

I never thought of myself as a sculptor but in reality, in order to produce the images I make, I first build a group of prims that relate to each other. I arrange them to create the effect of light, volume, and transparency that suggests a painting. Its not the overall appearance of the "sculpture" that I am seeking. Rather, it is the multitude of images created within..when you use your Second Life camera to explore the depths of the sculpture. Facing the Depths of Primagery was chosen as the title of the show at anandra because many of the images are like faces or like looking through a keyhole. The depths are clearly present in the accompanying sculptures.........promising viewers an enjoyable visual adventure. The miniatures sculptures in the show are surprisingly satisfying to look at and some of them have many more possibilities that I am anxious to explore. You won't be disappointed. This is a unique show and one that will fascinate you as much as it does me.
